Briem worked as an actress in Iceland when she was a child. In the year 16 Briem relocated to London where he participated in an production of the theatre of the play Lenin In Love which was staged at The New End Theater. At 19 years of age, Briem was accepted at the famous Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, where she enrolled over the next three years. She earned a degree in drama as well as an award called the John Barton Prize in the category of Scenic Fight.
